If you feel stressed about celebrating the holidays with your braces, take heart! Getting festive with your braces is super fun! Read on for some great ideas to make the most of the holiday season with your new braces!

Holiday Braces Dos and Don’ts

Celebrating the holidays often involves a lot of delicious holiday treats, so it can be helpful to know before holiday gatherings which foods are braces-safe and which ones are best avoided.

Orthodontists typically recommend avoiding foods that are crunchy, hard, sticky, or chewy. These foods are more likely to pull a wire or bracket loose at the most inconvenient time (like during a holiday party), which could require a visit to the orthodontist for repair.

But don’t get discouraged, because there are still lots of yummy holiday treats to choose from: mashed potatoes, sweet yams, cooked veggies, puddings, custards, fruit pies, cream pies, soups, casseroles, and many more!

Are Your Braces Festive?

Our favorite part about getting festive with your braces is getting to decorate them for the season! Each time you visit the orthodontist for a routine adjustment, you typically get to pick new colors for the bands that attach the wires of your new braces. During the holiday season, why not go all out and pick festive colors to match the season?

Many of our patients love to select shades of frosty blues or traditional red and green, but the possibilities are endless! You could match the colors of your favorite holiday sweater for the ultimate festive look at upcoming holiday parties!

Holiday Braces Care

In all the fun of celebrating the holidays and getting festive with your braces, don’t forget to keep up your normal braces care routine! Brushing after each meal and visiting your orthodontist for regular adjustments is just as important during the holidays to keep your treatment on track and your new smile looking and feeling its brightest and best throughout the season!
